Top Quiz Tools for Teachers

Quizzes are important for students because they provide a quick and effective way to assess knowledge, identify areas needing more study, and enhance understanding and retention of information. They also boost engagement and motivation, making learning more enjoyable and interactive.

My students love Kahoot. Must explore the rest too!

Germini AI generated quiz

Germini from Google (https://gemini.google.com) makes it easy to create multiple choice and true/false quizzes about a variety of topics commonly taught in school.

All you have to do is enter a prompt like, “create a multiple choice quiz about the parts of speech” and Germini will create a multiple choice quiz and an answer key for it.

The quiz that Germini generates can be exported to Google Docs and edited in Google Docs.

I have input "Create 20 multiple choice questions on volcano and earthquake"

You can export the quiz to Google Docs.

I have then input "show answer"

Watch the video below to see Richard demonstrates its use. Germini used be known as Google Bard.

Eduease AI generated quiz

Eduease will generate an entire quiz from the PDFs that you upload to it.

Just like the Kahoot AI which could generate the questions based on a pdf uploaded, Eduease does so too except that only 10 questions are generated.

I have generated some questions based on plate tectonics here:

Kahoot AI generated quiz

Pleasantly surprised that Kahoot has AI built-in. You can just upload a copy of your notes in pdf and the quiz can be generated by the AI or you can simply generate the questions based on a topic.

1. Log in to your Kahoot! Account (school account for this premium feature).

2. Select “Create” and then “Kahoot” from the home screen of your user dashboard.

3. Select “Question generator” to start creating a kahoot with AI, either from a pdf file you upload or a topic which you enter.

4. Upload your pdf file or enter your topic, click continue, and watch Kahoot! AI automatically generate the most relevant questions from your pdf file or related to your chosen topic.

5. You can now preview the questions by clicking on the down arrow to view the answers. When you have found the questions you want to add to your kahoot, simply select “Add” and the question will automatically be included in your kahoot.

6. Make sure to review and edit the AI-generated questions if necessary.

This is an example of Kahoot generated by Kahoot AI from my notes on sustainable tourism development.

Using most of the questions and options generated, I made only slight changes.

Do note this is a feature of the premium version.

Kahoot - online quiz

Kahoot is very similar to Socrative as a free online assessment tool - just that the element of gaming is stronger as the player is given a score based on accuracy and speed. As there are more students who own smart phones nowadays, using Kahoot to do a quick check on understanding with the element of game will definitely engage the students.

It is very easy to create the quiz. Just login to https://create.kahoot.it/ You can also create discussion or survey as shown below.

The following screen shoot shows what the students will see on his/her handphone.

The score is updated after every question!

 The winner is announced!

To launch the quiz again just login to https://create.kahoot.it/

You can also preview the game first.

After the game is played you can download the results in Excel format for analysis.

I have some of the kahoot on the links below.

Kahoot has just introduced a new feature ‘Ghost mode’.
After you finished a game of Kahoot! you will see a new ‘Play again’ button that also contains a ghost icon.
When you click on the button, the same game is relaunched. As well as your ‘live’ class, all players are joined by their ‘ghosts’! The ghosts play the game alongside live players, and their answers (and answer times) will be exactly the same as those the players entered in the previous game.
Ghost mode is a great way to encourage the students to compete against themselves as well as each other. It gives the students a chance to beat their previous score and provides immediate feedback. The students can be given the link to the ghost mode and practice at their own pace.

Quizlet

I was introduced to Quizlet http://quizlet.com/ by the ICT mentor community. It's a form of flash cards which is an effective memory-aid tools that can help students learn new material quickly as well as to reinforce concepts learned. Flashcards are perfect for memorising key facts quickly.
It's quite simple to create and is great to create flash cards. I have used it to create a set of flash cards to better understand the meaning of images used in political cartoons. I have also created two more quizlets on Geography - sec 1 Geography and water resources. The students can even click on the text and it will be read to them. You just have to input the word/image and its definition/meaning or the question and answer once and the whole study set of flash cards, test and games will be generated.

Flash cards - start by looking at the images and their meaning Choose the mode of study by scrolling down the menu at the bottom right hand corner. I love the scatter game and space race - try it out!
