As mentioned above are instantly generated by AI. You can edit the information on the slides and there is one on fun facts which can help sparkle their curiousity and trigger the lesson. 

Voyager in Google Earth App

I have been using Google Earth and have written on the use of it earlier. Here I would like to expand more on the use of Voyager in the Google Earth App as many students are using the Google Earth app in their mobile devices such as iPad.

The use of Google Earth has been great to understand the concepts of Space, Scale, Place and Environment in Geography

Games in Voyager

You can click on the wheel like icon to access Voyager. One of the category in Voyager is GAMES. I have recently gotten the students to play the game Where is Carmen Sandiego. 

When students click on an interviewee in the game, they will automatically zoom-in on the location of the interview. Just like in any other use of Google Earth, the students can zoom and pan around the area of detail.
Great for learning about places around the world! After talking to the witnesses, the students have to use the information to make their best guess as to where they should fly to next from a given list to pursue Carmen Sandiego.

A second version Tutankhamun’s Mask and a third version Keys to the Kremlin are also available under GAMES in Voyager. 

As the students play the game, they learn the names of the places they visit virtually. They can learn the uniqueness of the place which attract tourists and were reminded to relate it to what they have learned in the topic on tourism:

Places of scenic beauty
Places with rich culture
Places with facilities
Places with conflicts

The Quiz on Transport is also great as a trigger for the topic on transport for Sec 2

Another category under voyager is LAYERS. I love the one on Current Hurricanes & Tropical Storms which show the path of recent hurricanes and tropical storms. Tsunamis in History help students to see how large volcanic eruptions and underwater earthquakes can result in Tsunamis which impact on many regions. The students would acquire a greater sense of the scale of impact from the phenomena. 

Especially useful will the Timelapse in Google Earth under Layers. 

Love the one on Changing Forests under Timelapse in Google Earth. One can observe the changes over time on the changing landuse and how it impact on the forests in different parts of our Earth. The students will be able to investigate and respond to the geographical issue of deforestation in different parts of the world with a better understanding of Place, Space, Scale and Environment.

The students can explore the unique Earth's ecosystem which is covered in the new upper sec syllabus. Exploring the function, impacts and restoration of Earth's ecosystems under EDUCATION in Voyager. 

Students can continue to explore on the culture category in topics such as Orang Asal Indigenous Lands of Malaysia.

Voyager in Google Earth will allow the students to explore the world and have a better understanding of Place, Space, Scale and Environment.

Organising files in SLS

With increased use of SLS as the interactive digital text for our new Syllabus, it is important to organise the lessons/course which we had made a copy.

Kuula 360 gallery

I have been using Panoraven but recently it had become chargeable so I have switched over to Kuula. Love that it is able show a few 360 videos within a single iframe with the selection of the photo from the thumbnail bar at the bottom.

Kuula is equally user friendly and you can easily create a tour with multiple photo uploads, similar to that of Panoraven.

Select create tour from the menu.

Add the title and click on select images and choose from your files the 360 images to upload.

You can choose the transition type. Remember to click on post.

To get the link or code to embed on your site, click on share under my tour.

With a free plan, you can build a complete walk-through tour. However, hotspots will not be visible to anyone except yourself using the free plan. 

You are able to see the photos and move between them using the thumbnail bar with the free plan.

On the free account you can upload a maximum of 25 images at one time and a total of 100 images each month.

Google Site

I was wowed by Boon Lay Sec's use of Google site to allow the students to know more about the school through an adventure themed navigation.

Much easier with the older version of Google Site as I could duplicate sites and the attachment of files is at the bottom of the page. 

It's easy to create Google Site and it helps the students to be self-motivated in self-paced e-learning from the resources. I could also park my teaching resources on the sites for easy access too. Videos from youtube can be embedded into the site and this help as I could not play them direct from youtube on my ipad when projected through apple TV.

Wordwall

Wordwall provides teachers with a variety of templates, ranging from the common multiple-choice quizto matching pairs, anagram, sorting out, or cloze questions. Teachers can create resources and host activities by sharing an assignment link with students. Students can do the activities as an interactive in-class part or as homework. Teachers can track students’ activity result when they finish.

Love that it is gamified and there is even a leadership board.

Creating the activity is easy too.
Just select a template and scroll below the examples of the chosen template and click create. You can see the list of templates available below.

An example of one which I created in 5 mins using the match up template.

I just input the instrument name and under definition I clicked on the picture icon for image. You can upload the image or search as shown below. 

The following image is what the students will see. The keywords ie the weather element which the weather instrument measures are displayed on top and they can simply drag it to match with the picture of the weather instrument. 

You can easily switch template by clicking from the menu on the right. I have chosen the gameshow quiz template. 

I love that it can be assigned directly to Google Classroom. Differentiated instructions can be practised by assigning a particular activity to selected students too.

Do organise your activities by adding New Folder and renaming the folders.

Wheelofnames

 I have been using the name picker from classtools and I am so happy to learn this as Wheelofnames.com can do so much more!

You can insert pictures, customise the wheel, save and also share it!

Instead of entering a list of names, select add image. You will be prompted to browse your folders for the images you want to attach in the wheel. You can attach pictures of people instead of name to be selected. Or you can use it as a roulette in which a person or object is selected and the students have to provide some information on it. I see a lot of opportunities to engage the students using this.

You can customise the wheel such as changing the pop-up message.

You can change the colour theme and the image to be displayed in the centre of the wheel.

You can share the link and the person can make a copy.
