Google Slides Hyperdoc and drag and drop

Very good use of Google slides and got introduced to Kialo.com (debate).

He made use of History but I I think can easily adapt for other subjects too.

Other tools mentioned in the video which are hyperlinked to the google slides include padlet, notetaker, newsla article, video, graphic organiser using Google Doc, Kialo, Adobe Spark (but I think our students use canva).

Love the concept of hyper doc. So interesting.

Another interesting way of using Google slides is drag and drop activity.

Class Dojo

I would like to share the benefits of using Class Dojo to communicate with the parents. Other than not having to reveal the handphone numbers of the parents and the teacher, you can choose to message all parents or just one parent of the child you need to alert. You can invite subject teachers to join the class and they could also communicate with the parents.

I invited my students to join the class too by getting them to scan a QR code which I printed on a bookmark.

There are various class tools and you can affirm positive behaviour of the classbby awarding badges.

I would also share photographs of class events or to affirm the achievement of students using the class story.

another good point about Class dojo is that though the info was posted in English, one parent could view it in Chinese.

Google slides Q&A and Poll everywhere

Excited to learn two new functions of Google slides in Q&A as well as the add-on Poll everywhere (Chrome extension)

Adding Q&A to presentation
Audience (students) can ask questions and the questions will be shown real time! The students assess the link to the url which will be shown during presentation when the slide is shown.

Adding Poll everywhere via extension on Google ChromeI love this more than the Q&A as this seems to have a lot more potential to create Assessment for learning! You will need to create an account with polleverywhere.com as well as add the extension on Google Chrome https://www.polleverywhere.com/app/google-slides/chrome

However the downside is that the free version has a limit of only 25 responses.

I like that the responses are recorded and the data is kept @ polleverywhere.com

After you have created an account with polleverywhere and also added the polleverywhere extension on chrome, you will be able to see it on Google slides.

There are a variety of activities you can create - poll, word cloud, Q&A, leadership board (quiz in a competitive manner).

The activity which you have added will automatically be inserted on the Google slides.

A url will be shown for the students to access and enter their responses.

I like the various activities e.g. the clickable image.

The responses are also shown on one slide to the audience.

The students log into pollev.com and enter the url (just need to add the username e.g. lilylee205) and then join. This is only activated when the teacher is in the presentation mode for the Google slide.

The results is shown on the student's phone as well for the activity on leadership board.

Choice eliminator 2 in Google Form

Needed the students to make a choice of topic for their groupwork and decided to use Choice eliminator 2, an add-on in Google Form.

First click on the setting (the one with 3 dots) and click on Add-on. Then search for Choice eliminator 2 and install the add-on.

Next, you need to create a form with options such as Multiple Choice, Drop Down, or Checkboxes. Use a drop down for the question which you are using the choice eliminator. Once you have your form created, select Choice Eliminator 2 under the Add-on icon.

Select the question with the dropdown for choice eliminator and click on configure to enter the the quantity for each option

Great for creating slots for consultation or meet parent sessions. It can also be used for list of items on loan or to be donated

Another of my favourite add-on is certify'em which I shared earlier, adding a certificate which will be emailed to the respondent automatically upon successful completion of the quiz on Google form.

Drag and Drop tool in SLS

Using Paint to create or edit Background image and image options

Create a background image. The recommended image size is 640(W) x 960(H) but you can use any so long as the size is able to be uploaded. You can use Paint (available in all laptop) to size the image - please see below. If the image is too big to be uploaded - you can try to resize it to 80% or less.

The following is one background image I have used. The horizontal pixel should not exceed 640.

You can create the image to be used as options

Create drag and drop activity on SLS

In SLS, select Drag and Drop Tool after your add activity in the lesson.

Select create new.

Upload the background image.

The options can be in the form of images or textboxes.

Drag the options to their correct positions on the background image.

Student's view

Students will answer a drag-and-drop question by dragging the moveable images or textboxes into the areas marked out as options. This is what the student will see:

Tried out a few more for Geography.

The students have to match the correct explanation for the factor affecting wave energy.

One in which the students have to identify the location of the correct country and then drag and drop it to the image of Africa.

Adding digital locks in SLS

To customise your code, follow these 4 simple steps: 1
1) download the ejss.zip file (search in SLS under add media > add from library > location - community gallary > ejss_model_LockAndKey_4digit.zip *to be up soon

2) upload the file into https://ejss-browser-editor.herokuapp.com

3) input your code (0 - 9) and click save. eg. code = 1 2 3 4, enter the following: answer1 = 1 answer2 = 2 answer3 = 3 answer4 = 4

4) download the new ejss.zip file and upload into your SLS lesson as a media.

Talltweets Convert Slides to GIF

I have been using Macromedia Firework to create GIF. Just learned that you can do that using https://talltweets.com/ to convert Google Slides into animated GIF!
